We have not been to the Hardware Store in a while. They recently renovated the restaurant. It is beautiful! Ambiance was perfect. Christopher was our server, and he is INCREDIBLE! Best service on the island hands down! We had the chef's special - NY Strip and Hailbut. We also enjoyed the clams and foccacia bread as an appetizer, and it was delicious. Tim made some tasty dirty martinis too! Thrilled to have this gem in our hometown!

A friend took us to The Hardware Store for breakfast while visiting from out of state. It was great! I had the child's portion French Toast with Bacon and a side order of eggs over easy. The French Toast was think and crisp, the berries were fresh and sweet served real maple syrup! Everything was cooked perfectly and tasted wonderful! BUT the best thing about this place is the SERVICE! Our server was a young man who checked on us at just the right moment. When taking my order it was like he read my mind when asking about portion size. When I told him what I would be able to eat he told me what to order. AND he asked my how I like my bacon...I always forget to order it CRISPY and have to send it back but he asked !!!so I remembered to tell him crispy (I like it to stand up stiff)!!! If you have the chance, you have to try the Hardware Store!

While there was a brief wait before being greeted, the service, atmosphere, and quality of the meal from that point forward were top-tier. The kitchen truly shines when it comes to seasoning and technique. We ordered the Mushroom Risotto special, which was easily one of the best I have ever had. Often, risotto can be bland, but this dish was perfectly flavored and achieved that ideal "gooey" consistency without needing a touch of extra salt. We also tried the Chicken Marsala; the cutlet was perfectly crunchy, the homemade spaghetti was served al dente, and the sauce was a genuine treat for the tastebuds. A highlight of the visit was the unexpected hospitality. Though we had originally declined adding salmon to the risotto, the chef accidentally prepared it. Our server graciously offered it to us free of charge. Despite being very picky about fish, I found the salmon to be delicious, featuring a perfect blackened, crispy skin and incredibly flaky, flavorful meat. The service throughout the meal felt like catching up with a best friend—warm, welcoming, and making us feel right at home among the locals. Between the cozy historic atmosphere and the impeccable food, I will definitely be back. In fact, I would consider making the trip to Vashon specifically just to dine here again.
Last night (a Saturday evening) was our first dinner at the Hardware Store Restaurant on Vashon Island, and it absolutely exceeded every expectation! We ordered the steak tartare special and the farmers market lasagne, and both were incredible. Every bite was fresh, beautifully prepared, and full of flavor. You can really tell they put thought and care into both their seasonal specials and their ingredients. What truly made the evening unforgettable, though, was our server, Christopher. Without question, he provided the best service I’ve experienced in all my years living in the Pacific Northwest. He was warm, genuinely welcoming, attentive without ever being intrusive, and made us feel like valued guests from the moment we sat down until we left. Hospitality like his is rare, and it made an already wonderful meal even more memorable. We’ll happily be making the ferry ride back just to enjoy another fantastic dinner—and, hopefully, another evening with Christopher taking care of us. I’m already looking forward to bringing my mom so she can experience this wonderful restaurant for herself. Thank you for such a memorable evening!
Ok we keep coming back! The food is just sooooo good! I had the fried chicken sandwich (gluten free) I have celiacs. But you wouldn’t miss the gluten at this place. Last time I had the fish and chips which were to die for! I can’t tell you enough to COME EAT HERE! The owner Nick is so personable and knows what he’s doing! The staff are all so kind. Rosie is the best server here. Great service all around. Ok stop reading this and come eat here!
The food here was fantastic! I got the traditional breakfast with a zucchini bread special. Everything was perfect, especially the latkes. I wouldn't tell my mom, but the zucchini bread was better than hers. The honey butter was killer. My partner had another special, smoked salmon tartine. The bread was homemade and beyond words. The housemate herb oil really brought the open face sandwich home. We also got to chat with Chef Nick who was very charming and kind. I just found out my coworker is having them cater his wedding and I'm doing everything I can to get invited to that wedding! Lol.
We've been on a work trip for 2 weeks and this is the best meal we've had. Their brussel sprouts are to die for! Burger, made as a lettuce wrap, with no bun, was also incredible!
Nick has done such an amazing job taking a local icon into its next chapter with grace and charm. The food is excellent. The service is excellent. And everything is still quintessential Vashon. First time having brunch since the remodel and we were so impressed. Chilaquiles were delicious. Power bowl was better than ever. And the new french fries are worth the trip alone. Special shout out to Rosie for delivering a service masterclass during a holiday weekend rush. A plus plus!
